Hi all.
Just wondering what type of Hair arrangement you prefer. Do you prefer a short hair or a long hair?.
I prefer/use a long hair (up to 1inch long), as I think it helps the bait to behave more like a free bait. And feel that the separation between hook and bait, allows the bait to leave the Carps mouth, before the hook, thereby letting the hook drop down in the carps mouth and get a hold.

I have mine tight to the bend of the hook and as my hooks have an inturned eye, this arrangement acts like a claw and cannot fail to get a hook hold.

yea i prefer the bait to just be in line with the bend of the hook, I dont like the idea of the hair wrapping round the shank of the hook...

I've been playing a bit on my runs water and using long and short hairs. Definatly prefer the short hairs. With the long ones I've found that the hook doesn't always catch in the bottom lip as I'd like and also the hook hold seems a little too far back in the mouth. With the short hair I'm getting them bang in the bottom just nicely held

It's don't use hairs very much as i like to tie my baits on with tooth floss right up close to the shank or the eye of the hook. my catch rate has not gone down because i'm not using hairs

I always use long hairs (1-2 inches) unless I'm fishing a pop-up.
I could never fish a bait tight to the shank, never!

That's fine in the warmer months but in the colder weather the carps metabolism slows down, and does not move around so much and feel that having a two inch hair the carp would only pick up the bait and not the hook, therefore producing false bites, or worse.
Just my thoughts.
