Baynesey, It is virtualiy impossible for barbed hooks to cause damage to a carps mouth, unless the angler does not know what he is doing when it comes to removing the hook, it sounds to me that your freind is causing the damage not the hook.
A barbed hook cannot rotate in the carps mouth unlike a barbless hook which rotates all the time making the hook hold bigger and bigger.

if he dont know what the hell hes doing, i would tell him to use barbless i would say that only carpers who have been fishing for a while, and know what they are doing should use barbed. ive been fishing over 2 years now and still cant master how to unhook a barbed hook from a carps mouth properly. so i stick to semi barbed

no can do i tried telling him something a few weeks ago and he didnt like some1 who dnt catch much telling wot to do, so he though a paddy and packed up and went home, and aint seen him since, never mind never did like doubling up ne wayz. ;D and i think ill learn alot more fishing alone,
